Allford Hall Monaghan Morris

World Architecture Festival 2018 | Prominent features of the project

Weston Street is the product of what we call ‘slow architecture’ – it is the end result of several years of conversations and true collaboration with the client, Solidspace. This dialogue has allowed the team to focus on the craft and detail of building a 21st century mansion block made up of interlocking volumes in cast concrete.

The Alder Centre, meanwhile, is a small project but one with enormous personal and collective resonance for us. When complete it will provide a special and welcoming space for people who have been affected by the death of a child, and so this project has required a high level of sensitivity to the purpose and users of the building.

Impressions

We have attended WAF for a number of years since its inception and value the opportunity it presents to share our work and that of other practices in an international context. The innovative live crit format and informal programming allow for a truly rich way to experience a very diverse range of projects, and of course to meet and network with other architects as delegates, shortlisted presenters, judges or speakers.
