The future offices require more freedom to let every individual has their own potentials exposed. The rule is ‘no rule’.

efficiency in the office environment

When it comes to increasing motivation and efficiency in our lives today, arguments have changed considering the past. If you want to design spaces and products that people live in and succeed, you have to follow, understand and interpret today’s remarks and trends in order to communicate with them correctly. Some research emphasize that emotional approach rather than just analytics will cause more positive results for people and their behaviours.

If high productivity and satisfaction is a priority in a working environment, it is employees’ basic need to be able to make their own choices and decisions in this environment so that they can learn and be creative. Today, in the modern office environment, the popular belief about the positive effect of ‘external reward’ on the employee has changed, instead; the employee’s inner motivation has gained importance.

In this new approach increasingly preferred in the office environment in order to provide motivation to the employees, the opportunities of sitting, resting, socializing, relaxing or even taking time for themselves in working hours or during the break are necessary; in the meantime providing alternative and non-formal working areas should be taken into consideration. It is also essential to define areas, products, and systems for the employee to work individually, to be able to share with the teammates and to provide opportunities to work efficiently with individuals from outside the office when they are in the workplace.

One person, one desk will no longer be a solution at one point.

future of offices and working culture

Being aware of fast-changing milieu and global megatrends, studying contemporary and upcoming working habits and human behaviours will be the starting point in office design for the coming future. Tracking and analyzing the habits of new generation directly influenced by the fastgrowing technological improvements will gain importance.

These young people are more extroverted, self-actualizing and spending more time outside of the office with the support of communication alternatives. Older generations were supposed to spend all the time at their desks, blending into their working environment, following the rules of working hours, suppressing their personal differences. The future offices require more freedom to let every individual has their own potentials exposed. The rule is ‘no rule’.

Whichever direction you go, either choosing to fulfil existing needs or proposing new working conditions, the mission is the same which will be lifting up the user experience both physically and emotionally to a higher level. On a basic level, workplaces should be safe, healthy and secure but it should also be well-designed to propose a stressfree environment. Your physical end emotional well-being should be well-cared in your work area. Biophilia will be one of the means to find this purpose.

Living in an increasingly resource-constrained world with a growing population, none of us in this profession has the luxury to say ‘no’ to sustainability issue. That is why to try to come up with a good story in designs before chasing after mere beauty will be the main issue. Timeless design language with the idea of long life span for the products, the minimum amount of material for the maximum outcome will be more important.
