2016 was a year of research for the studio: I organised Salons in London exploring the future of furniture design and the changing position of the designer. An important project for this year though will be my solo exhibition in Kunsthalle Vienna, opening in September. It will coincide with the opening of the Vienna Design Week. The title is WAS IST LoOS? (What is going on + a wink to the historic Viennese Architect Designer Adolf Loos.)
For 2017 we are working on a lot of new projects: products and furniture that will come out in 2017 or 2018. I always like to keep the company names hidden till products come out.
An important project for this year though will be my solo exhibition in Kunsthalle Vienna, opening in September. It will coincide with the opening of the Vienna Design Week. The title is WAS IST LoOS? (What is going on + a wink to the historic Viennese Architect Designer Adolf Loos.) 3 new projects will come out: chair table storage all in close cooperation with interesting companies and a catalogue with contributions by a.o. Deyan Sudjic (design museum London) and Oliver Stratford (Disegno Magazine London).
2016 was a year of research for the studio: I organised Salons in London exploring the future of furniture design and the changing position of the designer. A small playful project came out: CHOPS that were the results of an installation we made for the garden pavilion of the Dutch Royal Palace Soestdijk.
An important project related to the Salon-research was a pop up installation I made in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London called Cuckoo Eggs – rethinking and updating furniture at the V&A for 2017 and beyond. A trail of 16 comments and drawings were spread around the galleries, responding to the furniture on show and relating to furniture’s past, present and future and changes that take place on our society.
