2017 was a pivotal year for my firm. We were awarded to be the global design architect for Avenues, a very prestigious private school company based in New York. We are now commissioned to design their Shenzhen campus in China. 2017 was also a very rewarding year. What really touched me personally was that our Bandırma Park Competition entry won an honorable mention. In 2018, besides our project Avenues World School, the development of the Shenzhen campus will also continue; which means that I will be travelling frequently to China, and our projects in variety of locations in the world will go on.
Our project, The Avalanche House, located at a steep slope in Telluride Colorado is finally starting construction in 2018. Due to the extreme conditions of the site, it took us a long two years of designing and engineering a house that can divert avalanche forces. A mixed-use project we designed in Chicago across from the Loyola University campus is also starting construction this year. We designed this project for a developer who is extremely keen on quality, so I am personally very interested to see this building come to fruition.

We won the AIA NY Design Award for Lima Art Museum – a very significant accomplishment for us, given how hard the competition in New York is. However, what really touched me personally was that our Bandırma Park Competition entry won an honorable mention. This project was not only my first professional architectural work in Turkey, but also, I was born and raised in Bandırma. Designing for my hometown while being so far away made me very emotional. Our studio kept working on several projects of different scales, from product design to large-scale master planning. Liquid Forms, our tile design for Kaza Concrete is getting used by designers worldwide, which makes me happy to see how new life brought a breath of fresh air to the vision of each designer. On the other end of the spectrum, we worked on developing master plans for large-scale campuses.
