When I first came in contact with 3D printer technology in 2001, it was a very expensive toy. 10 - 15 years later, home variants are available at affordable prices. This enables everybody to design and produce their own products. This trend of diversification is continued in 2017. The milennials are excellent connoisseurs of technology with great expectations regarding utility and usefulness of products. Growing up in the “connected” world, surrounded by mobile devices and internet, they toss information with ease. Each research had shown that this is the trend, which will continue to evolve and this “online” generation will mark the times ahead. For sure we will see more projects focused on this topic.
The millenials are excellent connoisseurs of technology with great expectations regarding utility and usefulness of products. Growing up in the “connected” world, surrounded by mobile devices and internet, they toss information with ease. They demand a continual approach to data and ready-to-use solutions on the spot. The intuitive applications, internet service, and smart phones, provided them with absolute freedom. Each research had shown that this is the trend, which will continue to evolve and this “online” generation will mark the times ahead. For sure we will see more projects focused on this topic. I like the theory which says that, in fact, we are dealing with shaping abstract objects. If we are translating the language of abstract art, which uses the visual language of form, colour, and line in order to create compositions independent from the physical world, into the world of design by creating new, previously unseen objects, we are creating new artifacts with entirely new topologies and patterns of growth. This I can also call a new “genetics” of products, which can be characterized as technology, materials, aesthetics, needs, as much as the personality of a designer. The product is allowed to evolve along the development of these components. Everybody is offered an opportunity to interpret those elements and use them in their own characteristic and special ways, and all this creates one wealthy image of variety. The extent to which technology and new materials can inspire can be seen in the projects Genesis (Geneza) of LED series of lamps and G3 briefcases.
My opinion is that the domination of styles or aesthetic recognition of the ways of thinking came to an end. The rapid changes of “trends” is such that it is impossible to comprehend them. It is more interesting to look at what is happening in the realm of technology. See how the development of 3D printer came a long way for a short period of time. When I first came in contact with this technology in 2001, it was a very expensive toy. 10 – 15 years later, home variants are available at affordable prices. Although industrial design rests on and depends on industry and technology, it is increasingly becoming the field of strong artistic activities and expression, as well as the stage for experimenting with various concepts and ideas. The large number and accessibility of various production techniques open innumerable possibilities for transmission of personal messages into the world through a functional object, which thus becomes much more than an object in space or a useful piece of material. Through such object, the message becomes clearer. Sometimes it develops into such a dominant force that it often befogs and blurs the basic function. A complete interaction between man and object in this way enables a unique sensual experience, engaging all our senses, and thus becoming an ultimate art form. In this light, I have been conducting my latest designs and by all means, this is what characterizes year that is behind us.
