CONCEPT SPECIAL
In Memory of JØRN OBERG UTZON

The uniquely shaped water tower was inspired by the old sea marks used for assisting the navigation of ships at sea. The marks were used in the West of Jutland and in the Swedish archipelago from the end of the 16th century since there were no other distinguishable markings along the coast.

The water tank is supported by three thin ferroconcrete legs, which meet at the top of the tower. The centrally placed steps, also made of concrete, rise elegantly from the ground.

In 1988, the building was taken out of service after countrywide systemic changes regarding water supply. Since 1990, it has been a listed building. This was the first of five concrete architecture works by Utzon. Carefully selected elements of the building makes sure it looks elegant, slim and durable at the same time.
