Sublime Craftsmanship Meets Sculptural Design
Hans J. Wegner possessed a rare ability to unite aesthetics, function and comfort – a talent clearly evident in this set of sculptural furniture the world-famous Danish architect and designer first introduced in 1952. The CH71 lounge chair and CH72 two-seater sofa, which have not been in production since the late 1970s, now join the Carl Hansen & Son collection.
Organic expression and superb craftsmanship are hallmarks of Hans J. Wegner’s furniture. Wegner also had a special sense for designing and developing furniture pieces that were at once contemporary – and possessed the potential to become timeless classics. A good example is Wegner’s sculptural CH71 lounge chair, which was first presented at the Danish Furniture Design exhibition at the renowned Copenhagen department store, Magasin du Nord, in 1952.
