about WAF…

Sharing on the WAF platform is very valuable in terms of evaluating design approaches and criteria among global best practices. Meeting/exchanging ideas with participants from different regions is a mentally and professionally nourishing period where everyone has the opportunity to get away from the routine they are in and look at the practice of architecture on a global scale together. Meetings between interest groups who are passionately committed to the profession allow all practitioners to get away from their daily focus and look from a broader perspective.

The evaluation process is perhaps the part that seems to be the most tiresome, there are several groups in the evaluation [as in every jury formation]: all stakeholders within the framework of architectural practice [practitioner, critic, academician,…]. In a very short time, presentations on many subjects are evaluated. Even if not every jury performs equally, the fact that many different jury members are visible and that every participant can see the difference between the jury members allows the jury members to be evaluated, and of course this evaluation is collected through feedback.

Even in the selection process leading up to the 3-day festival, I perceive that with each experience, these issues are improved. I perceive that even in the selection process leading up to the 3-day festival, we get better and better, we get to know the practices, and both the subject matter and the philosophies of the practices are examined in depth. The truly professional mutual appreciation of WAF is becoming more cumulative.

highlights…

'makery' is one of our research topics that goes beyond being a single project and includes good settlement and living arrangements. It is satisfying that our practice is also evaluated in this respect. Having individuals/institutions with similar principles and frequencies ensures that there are stakeholders on a global scale.

‘makery’ proposes a new generation of holistic development [housing-production-coexistence and articulation with existing urban physical and social infrastructure]. It allows for the consolidation of existing values and the creation of new and re-used environments and communities, as well as the possibility of making large infrastructural systems more intensively/efficiently used with improvements, if necessary, so as not to be a vehicle for hyper-consumption, and to create more tightly-knit communities.

preparation…

I think it is enough to enter the WAF selection, and I don’t think there is even a need to evaluate it without ranking it again. Maybe a method of measuring the general selection differently but not ranking it could be developed. In this way, it would be possible to benefit by going deeper into the content without worrying about ranking.
